Hello world!!

programming is too easy nowadays
wanna learn about what it was like back when it was worse?
you can just go find out!
explore some computing history by writing a game for MS-DOS.
we'll send you a floppy disk with your game on it!

what do?

  1. join the #retrospect channel on Slack
  2. build an MS-DOS game
  3. submit it by Oct 1st 8th!

what counts?

  • it's gotta run on DOS1 (test on DOSBox!)
  • open-source it!!!
  • not at all firm on "game"
if you wanna write a word processor/industrial control system/lighting console, i'm not gonna say no...
  • ≤1.44MB in total :-P

how?

figuring it out is part of the challenge!

use whatever tools you like. why not Turbo Pascal? Turbo C++? or if you're looking for a more engine-y starting place, how about Allegro on DJGPP?

something else? cool! awesome! whatever works for you :-)

what's in it for me??

i'll ship you:
  • your game on a floppy disk
  • some exclusive stickers
  • include a cracktro with your game and i'll throw a pirate flag in the box!
....oh, and the best one gets a blåhaj2 :3

1 – if you wrote a boot sector game with just BIOS routines i'd still count that (and be impressed!)
2 – i am 100% serious
